I love this place

Another day, another hospital. I'm now in my rotation at my number one choice for residency, and I am reminded regularly of why. Everyone is happy here. The patients are similar, the workload is, if anything, greater, but the people are uniformly happier to be here. I don't really have a great explanation for the difference. I just really like it here.

What subspecialty are you thinking within internal?

I came to med school wanting cardiology, but infectious disease, a very, very different specialty, is also quite attractive. I haven't made up my mind, but I will subspecialize.

Speaking of cardiology, my med student son informed me today, via his brand new blog, that he was wearing a heart monitor and had a blah-blah-blah wrong with his blah-blah-blah. (Check my blog for the link, if you are interested in what he really said.) Can being a medical student make your heart beat funny?

We all end up in infectious disease eventually :) No matter what you choose, you're going to have a pretty fascinating career. And you get to be trained for it in an awesome city. Isn't life grand?
